I really like the impact created by the simplified flanks and rear end of the '62 combined with the visual cue estabished by the Starliner roof. Looks like it's gonna be a real klean kustom! ;D

Nice save of a starry eyed kids build from the past. I always thought Ford made a mistake in not producing a 62 Starliner. The addition of the T-bird hood scoop makes the car unique and classy. Definitely following this build. Very nice John

Looks like a great restoration-project!!! I have to admit, I think it's a shame, that you removed the original custom front - I Hope you're going to use it on one of the upcoming reissues of the '61 Starliner, because that thing is just too cool to leave in the parts-box...

Looks great. Just a thought - the rear of the car has a flow to it from the deck lid down to the rolled pan. For this reason I would think vertical bars would look better between the tail lights, maybe a cut-down 60 Mercury grille or 64 Dodge grille? I think horizontal may interrupt the natural flow of the rear of the car. Maybe even a small body line in the middle of the rolled pan to mimic the trunk raised detail line. Keep posting updates. Thanks, John

Not tryin' to bust your chops, John, but I'm thinking almost anything that completes the line from trunk to pan will have the same effect. I'd rather see Ron's original thought of the horizontal tubes, mostly because they'll contribute to a wider look. Ron, in keeping with John's ideas on the "flow", you might want to step the tubes out more as they reach the bottom, so thet the top tube flows from line of the trunk and the bottom tube flows into the line of the pan.

I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND AGREE THAT WOULD WORK TOO AND HAVE THE ADDED BENEFIT OF WIDTH.
FOR THE FRONT I CAN SEE A SIMPLE TUBE GRILLE OR MAYBE A LITTLE MORE ELABORATE METHOD WOULD BE TO USE A 60 PONTIAC GRILLE WITHOUT THE MOLDED ON BUMPER. YOU MAY NEED TO ADD A LITTLE MORE PLASTIC TO THE LEADING EDGE OF THE HOOD TO MATCH THE SHAPE OF THE PONTIAC GRILLE. JUST SOME THOUGHTS - MY FAVORITE PART OF EVERY BUILD, THE MENTAL VISUALIZATION OF CUSTOMIZATION.
NO CHOPS BUSTED AS WE ALL HAVE GREAT VISION HERE AND BRAINSTORMING USUALLY YIELDS A FINER FINISHED PRODUCT.

Working on grills today : Here's an old parts pack 60 Olds front grill And a 61 Galaxie rear grill. These were easy drop ins After thinking over Nobillet's 60 Merc idea, I found this old rear bumper/grill piece and separated them. A jeweler's saw sure came in handy for this job! After some sanding and shaping I had a custom fit part Dropped right in...I like it! Carrying the idea to the front, another trip to parts box produced an old parts pack 60 Merc front grill. More work was in order. After some cutting, shaping and fitting it slid in like it belongs there. Not sure which set I like best yet but I'm leaning towards the 60 Merc stuff. Which combination would you use???

I really like both the Mercury pieces as they both have a similar curvature. Not sure what is missing but something is missing from the rear pan - small bumperettes? Recessed license plate? Vertical body lines or maybe a little bit of a roll inward at the bottom toward the body? Again just some thoughts. This sure beats work (sick of preparing tax returns today anyway, HE HE HE !!!)
