The engine is complete and ready for the car, that's if the car was ready. The only thing left is the radiator hoses and the battery cable to the starter which I lost so I'll have to make another one. Speaking of losing things, I think I could cut the building time in half if I could just 'NOT' loose parts after I make them. I think I fabricated at least 10 to 15 different parts for this build and lost about 8 of them.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the good words. Duane, I wish I had the energy and money to build a 1:1. Mostly I build from what I remember seeing at the strip and believe me I seen a lot of Da Grumps cars when I was racing. If I knew then that there would be few reference pics of his cars available I would have taken lots of pics back in the day.

I think though that the reason for so few pics of older race cars was because we were to busy working and racing our cars to waste time taking pictures of it. I raced for 7 years and I do not have one picture of any of the 3 cars I ran.

Moving back to the body and trying to get the stance correct, I made a big mistake.. I put the extensions on the wrong side and instead of raising it about 1/8" I lowered it.


So I took it all apart and this time built the suspension so it was adjustable. I think I have it now!


Here's a shot of what I did. I drilled a .063" hole through the coil/shock and put a .060" aluminum tubing through it. Filed off the top and bottom of the coil so I could slide it up and down to get the stance I want. The top and bottom of the tubing will be cut off flush afterwards.

Got to do a little more work on the car today and got the engine bay painted. Next I need to mask it off and put some color on the body if you call white a color. :dunno:

Suppose to have some warmer temps this week so I may even get to apply the decals, PE badges and then shoot some clear later this week....maybe.

Upper 70's today so I got to paint the body and hood today but I had some problems with the hood. I don't know why because I wet sanded, rinsed, dried with air hose and then used a tac cloth right before spraying and luckily the body came out great but the hood seemed to have something on it that reacted with the paint. Here's a pic of it showing what happened. Any ideas guys???

Without knowing for sure, it could be caused by excessive air humidity or (if you're painting with an airbrush) tiny water particles trapped in the air hose.
