Here is another, a 60 Chrysler but same idea body shape-wise Yours might look cool done in a pearl white with a dark green roof with a nice fine flake in it. The lines of these cars almost look custom in stock form and a little clean up and nice color goes a long way. John

Lowering and dechroming goes a long ways on making a good looking custom car of this era. Chopping it a bit would look nice and it was still being done, but as previously mentioned cutting the windshield is difficult to do on this car in real life. In plastic, the windshield is not that difficult to chop, as it is much easier to reshape and fit than real glass.

Looking good, Gary! Stance looks great, just low enough! Those vintage mags are cool (what're they from anyway?) and might work well with some narrow whitewalls, which seem more "period correct" for the mag wheel look. Ages ago when I built this kit and several other Johan kits of this vintage the track seemed too narrow by about six scale inches, might be something to keep in mind if you use the kit chassis and wheelbacks.
Color? Whew, I don't know. Mopar had a bunch of great colors in their palette around this time so it might be worth checking AutoColorLibrary.com.

I think the 57 300 kit would have the proper chassis, engine ect. As for paint? A Winfield Fade job!!!That would do it for me!!!

Mopar went to a uni-body chassis in 1960 while the prior years had full frames. The uni-body chassis was very similar throughout the sixties into the mid eighties. Also the 57 300 had a hemi V8 and the 60 DeSoto had a wedge big block engine either a 361 or 383. Although a hemi always looks sweet under any hood. As for the Winfield fade - YES!!! John

I like this a lot, just looks great as a mild custom. I agree with John on the narrow whites, and yeah, what are the mags from. I have three of them that came out of an ebay junkyard, and Im real curious. I had never seen them before.

I was looking for a link of that green '60 Chrysler to post too. That car's just about perfect to my mind. Was also going to say use the '57 Amt chassis, yes it's inaccurate for the '60 but you do get steerable wheels and a decent Hemi.

Bob, I bet you added the pictures of the minty green one didn't you? Thanks. You guys are making this very difficult for me. I absolutely think the stock grille is ugly, and is that grille shape on the customs from a Chrysler? It's a much cleaner front end done that way! And both of these dechromed customs show how they look without the shiny on their sides. So now it's decision time for me. I have to decide if I want to modify the grille in the stock grille/bumper, or start something from scratch. I don't have a Chrysler grille, but if someone has an extra one they can part with...it might be the start of one like those above. Gary

Oh, the minty green pictures. When I first saw those pictures there was a link to them. Maybe John put in the pictures instead of the link. Bob, regards the Parts Pack Chrysler 300 grille, I just realized I have 2 of 'em. Thanks for waking me up. Gary

Bob, regards the Parts Pack Chrysler 300 grille, I just realized I have 2 of 'em. Thanks for waking me up. Gary Guilty as charged. I figured out how to post them after I posted the link. The Chrysler 300 grille won't work because it is upside down in shape. The real 1:1 60 Chrysler grille is a much more deep unit (as is the 60 DeSoto) than in model form. I believe Modelhaus does re-pop the 60 Chrysler and if you ask he will send it non chromed. When I get to mine I was planning on trying to either build a grille surround from scratch or possibly hollow out a 60 Chrysler grille that has been separated from the bumper. Both pics I posted are of modified 60 Chrysler grilles. Hope this helps. John

The grill on the darker metallic green car is basically a stock '60 New Yorker grill with the surround painted rather than the original chrome. It's also had the emblem removed from the center. The Johan '60 Chrysler kit had an incorrect un-recessed New Yorker grill. Modelhaus sells one that's correctly recessed. The pale green car has a decent custom grill that doesn't work as well as would either of the stock '60 Chrysler grills with the center emblem unbolted.
Remember that the AMT Parts Pack grill is a '62 300, so it's wider at the top than at the bottom and would need significant mods to the hood and front fascia. You might be better off starting with a '57 300 grill, which is narrow at the top.
Without the side trim the paint on the metallic green car shows off the curves of the body to greater advantage.
PS... John B. musta been posting above as I was writing! So, yeah, what he said!
