I was wondering it that body also has that "to low windshield" i read somewhere that it was based on the convertible body that has a lower windshield than a body with a roof
I really like where this build is going.

Jimmi, I've been looking at that roofline in the last few days. So much of this kit was based on the AMT 55 Nomad (Check the sedan instructions for example) that I think that's where they arrived at the windshield height. It's supposed to be taller than the hardtop/convertible windshield. If you have a sedan kit take a look at the front half of the roof. There isn't as much of a crown there so AMT graduated the roof crown down from a (possibly) stock roof at the rear. I'm sure others will have their thoughts on this, this kit's been around for quite a while now. Gary

Looking good, Tamiya make a series of clear paints you can use to tint glass.
I've always thought AMT did a really accurate body for their '55 Chevys - never noticed any problem with proportions.

Since I've been doing so much painting lately (something I'm not really known for doing by the way), I'm posting some progress pictures of where I am on some models that are now on my workbench. I haven't cleared the body or the hood yet. I think I need to tone down the color on the brake drums just a bit after looking at this picture. The color is Testors Ruby Red Metallic. Thanks for looking. Gary

Nice colour - looks like a candy apple red! Clashes like crazy with the front seat but these things weren't built to satisfy interior designers were they?
Loving it.

Looks great!
I particularly like the beaded edges along the radiused wheelwells - they give it that extra touch of class compared to some of the "ax-job" gassers.

You need to dig this one out, blow off the dust and cob webs, and get back to work on finishing it! LOL!

Going back a few years but I think completion is sure this year. My 6 year old grandson is actually asking me why I don't finish it. Good question Daniel, why not?! Some years back (before he was born!) I stripped off the paint. I just couldn't get myself to like it in its other red color. So now it's maroon even though it looks red in this picture. I left the front fenders flat black thinking it might look like the owner went for fiberglass parts. The hood is still flat black too but what if I paint it flat gray for another source of fiberglass? Comments? The other picture Shows the completed chassis and interior. We'll say the engine is a 327 with dual Carter AFB's and headers. Now, here's another question. What class would this car run in? Comments? Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiThanks to all who wondered if this would ever get on the shelf. It will! Thanks for your comments too! Gary

I thought it was perfect the way it was when you first had it painted in the photos above. You really like to make things more complicated! LOL! I'd just paint the entire front clip (fenders and hood) in a medium/dark grey primer and polish smooth to a shine (no clear) to look like the polished gel coat on unpainted fiberglass parts.........if you must roll this way. Going with more than one color grey, black, etc. just doesn't look convincing to me since most drag racers bought all the fiberglass parts at once (if new) from the same company.
As for the class, you would typically see a car with this set up running in C/Gas or D/Gas...........but more than likely in Modified Production and not the Gas classes since you are running dual quads and not blown or injected.

OK now Ed, make up my mind fer cryin' out loud. C Gas, D (doggy) Gas, or ? modified? It was easy to mask for the color. won't be so easy to mask for a different color on the fenders I think. I've tried a trick on bringing up a gloss on flat black by scrubbing with an old toothbrush. No, not the one I brush with, one I usta brush with. I'll do it tomorrow. If I don't get it finished this year it'll be your fault Ed for not telling me what class. You guys are witnesses. Thank you boys, Gary

Might be easier to use a light gray gloss enamel and flatten it to look like a fiberglass gel coat, then the inside gets that orangeIsh yellow color of raw fiberglass mat.
