I mentioned the other day that I was looking for suggestions for a straight axle to put under the front of this model. I've gotten some help there, but right now this is where I'm at. I'm hoping to get the ride height at least where it is in the picture. The body has had all the side trim removed and the rear fenders opened up for the slicks. I spent quite a bit of time on the front splash pan trying to make it look more like the 1:1 than it is as it comes out of the box. I removed the rear seat (like the Utility Sedan), and removed the door panel upholstery. The rear arm rests were added to the now plain door panels. I have also removed the trim insert from the dash and added the radio delete plate. I have a nice set of headers for the engine and also a dual quad intake setup. The front tires are the kit Firestones, and the rear slicks are 9" Firestones out of my stash. I got the mags from Ed Fluck, and I'll be painting the spokes flat gray. I'll be glad to hear any comments, criticism, suggestions or ?? whatever. Thanks for looking, Gary

I think you're off to an excellent start, street gasser has always been my favourite way to build a '55. I've got one in my head that I'll do sometime soon and it'll probably start out looking a lot likes yours so here's how mine should turn out: Radiused rear arches (the radiused rear wheelarches always need a little bit of beading round the edge to finish them off), of course five spoke American mags, jacked a little in front, out back anti tramp bars on an Olds rear end. Cheater slicks. No front bumper - maybe just a chrome spreader bar between the front rails, a box air scoop (Grump Lump style) on a fibreglass hood, or maybe a flip front? 327 Corvette with two or three carbs, or maybe a Red Ram Hemi or Olds 303 engine. Maybe fuel injected - something like a Man-A-Fre? But not blown. Fenderwell headers, no rear seat, single hoop rollcage and don't forget the Sun tach on the dash! Bucket seats and some '62 era speed decals in the rear window. And of course it's a four on the floor, probably a Hurst. Maybe black tuck n roll but I'm thinking probably just a stripped out stock interior Sort of a milder version of the Two Lane Blacktop cars but not as shiny and nicely finished as the Graffiti ones. Colour? Could be anything from faded original two tone (which would look interesting with the side chrome removed!) through primered, to full on red metalflake. That's my dollar and 2 c Here's some 1:1 inspiration in case you need it Single piece front door glass too... Or you could take inspiration from the AWB '55 in the ultra obscure old movie Pit Stop...

Ooh... panel painted...
Had not even considered that... AMT needs to reissue this kit.

AMT needs to reissue this kit. Better yet - Revell needs to pull their fingers out and do something useful with the "new" 1/25 '55 Chevy tooling... (Hey... where has the smiley ranting from a soapbox gone???)

OOh, I like the look of this project. Lots of good ideas and inspirational pics already. Here is one I built a few years back. The engine is a 409 with twin 4 barrels.

As you can see in some of the pictures below, I do listen to your opinions, and I thank you all for your input. I also thank you for the pictures of the 1:1 cars. they're a GAS!!! The tan part of the roll bar is from the AMT 57 Chevy, and I made the rears from .093 tube styrene. I found a nice Hurst looking shifter in my misc. parts, and I think it came from the AMT 59 Elky kit. I've modified the front frame rails a little bit and added the spreader bar. This is also the first time it's up on 4 tires. I gave in on the front end by using the gasser parts from the AMT 55 Nomad kit. I drilled out the holes in the axle and radius rods. It'll work! I used .040X.080 styrene strip for the flares on the rear fenders, then sanded them to an angle so they'd look like the sheet metal was flared out. And finally, just a side view so you can see the ride height.

Now that's looking perfect right there.
I'm inspired enough to have just bought a '55 kit from a well known auction site...
Keep up the great work.

Nice clean work, particularly the radius on the rear wheel arch finished off with the half round! Stance is perfect, authentic gasser 'stead of '70s "street freak."

I think I'm ready for primer on the frame, body, engine, and the rear suspension. The kit engine block didn't have the block mounted oil filter so I made one of those. I found a nice master cylinder so I've drilled the hole in the firewall for that. I'm using Rep's & Min's headers with collectors and also their dual quad intake with carbs (that look like Carters), and I found a pair of air horn style air cleaners for them. I'm using old Vette valve covers to top off the heads which were also scrounged from my junk. And finally I'll use a Distributor from R&Min's. Thanks for looking in. Gary Oh yeah, I just remembered something else. I changed the radiator from the V-8 location, to the 6 cyl. location in front of the cross brace. I made a new filler neck and cap and the overflow tube. I just couldn't see a salesman buying a cheap utility sedan, but going with the V-8 engine instead of the stock, cheaper 6!
