Back in 2010 I built this chopped '32 Sedan. The chop turned out awesome and the paint was pretty damn nice, too! Unfortunately, I rushed assembly to make an NNL show and the final quality of the model suffered. Part of the problem was that I forgot to smooth the chop seams inside so the rear windows I cut wouldn't sit flat and fell out while trying to shove the interior assembly in. The interior proved to be a touch too long and the firewall wouldn't sit flat on the cowl. Also, I made the hairpins and they were way to big and long and looked like shit.
At some point I removed the interior and planned to correct the issues but there were other things that bugged me like the ugly hairpins and lumpy AMT '40 Ford Buick engine so my intention was to make a new chassis to set the body on, which never happened. I took this picture around that time.
Fast forward to today. I modified a set of Revell '30 Coupe Halibrand wheels to fit the series of Revell '32 Ford kits and did a tutorial on the procedure. (Tutorial can be found elsewhere here on TRaK) For a mock up to show the wheels off better I grabbed the old Sedan body and set it on the mock up frame.
Then I came in to transfer the pictures and write up the tutorial. I got to thinking it looked kind of cool. I also got to thinking that it really was a shame to waste such a well chopped body!
After dinner I snuck back out to the garage and made a few swipes here and there with my trusty razor saw. I trimmed the firewall to channel the body 3/16", cut off the rear frame horns, cut the grill to drop it 3/16" to match the body and gave the front spring tabs the old Tim Boyd Trim to drop the front a few more scale inches. Finally I taped together a Revell '50 Olds motor and set it in the frame (which fits surprisingly well!)
The results:
So what do you guys think, should I keep going?
