I went over my recent flathead parts stash and new arrivals, and looked over my resource file for interesting flathead engines. I think I found an interesting picture in Dain Gingerelli's "Ford Hot Rods" that will match my Replicas and Miniatures resin flathead engine block and trans, dual carb intake and vintage resin bell air cleaners, along with the detailed resin Stromberg 97s from Model Car Garage. I tack glued it all together to see if it will tuck under the hood...looks like it will fit. The second flathead picture is from Dain Gingerellis "Idea Book : Hot Rods, Roadsters, Coupes and Customs" which is an excellent collection of hundreds of color photos of everything from engines chasis tailights and interiors. I'll use resin Offy flathead valve covers from Model Car Garage, unless I dig up some Navarros.

Great looking Flathead options, love that book as well has some great pictures of ways to do things on early Fords. If I can find them for a decent price I'd also like to get some of the Vern Tardel little books on Early Fords, he's like a virtual encyclopedia of early Ford wrenching.
I'm not sure that I have seen any Navarro heads from Model Car Garage, I know I have seen them somewhere and it could be that Norm has them at R & M of Md. If you do go with the Model Car Garage heads, I've had a couple that the water neck broke off, they glue right back on and look like nothing happened. I cut the neck off with enough remaining to drill and pin so that the hose could locate and have a mechanical means of staying onto the head. It works well and I've since been doing that with all water necks, flathead and overhead engines alike, plus radiators, haven't had any come off since.

There is a set of Navarro heads in the custom version of the Revell 48 Ford coupe if that's what you're really after. Lots of other great parts in that kit too if you have never seen one up close.

Made a driveshaft now that I have an engine block to work with. Warmed up a bit so I shot some ALCLAD black base coat for flathead engine parts...giving it a day to dry and then shoot some chrome and aluminum. I'll need much warmer weather to give the enamel/lacquer for the body shell another try. Temps for next week look promising. Need to switch to other projects until then.

Like how you handled the aluminum and other metal work, not glaringly bright and shiny, just metal doing its job! Looks great!

Painting. The bane of my existence. I'll be waiting for my second attempt at painting the body shell to fully cure before proceeding. Still got orange peel on the second attempt...although a bit less. Got a conversation over in the "How did ya do it" posts....on airbrushing Testors enamel with lacquer thinner. - 32 psi - 2 part paint to 1 part thinner (Jasco Green lacquer thinner from Lowes (pretty mild stuff, no crazing on a bare unprimed test kit plastic) maybe a little more thinner than 2 to 1 as it seemed thick - sprayed outdoors, mid 50's plus degrees - many very thin mist coats building up tp a final coat to show some gloss.......maybe IO held the airbrush too far away? 8 - 12 inches? Jim, don't know if you got the paint resolved. If you haven't you might want to check out Barbatos Rex - How to Airbrush Testors Enamel. He walks you through all of the steps showing you what he does all along the way. He sprays much closer than your 8-12 inches.

The Don Yost DVD also gives a step by step.....I did a third try when it was 70 degrees outside and got much better reults...so there is hope. While I like Tamiya rattle cans and Testors lacquer rattle cans, I'll be using this enamel airbrush method again...(but looks like some Testors bottle paints are limited given the recent shut down of some of the Model Master line. But I like airbrushing for the better flow control and I like the gloss enamel gives.

I was at my local Ace Hardware and they had Testors in the paint section. All of the cans were relabeled to look crafty and the colors were mostly for crafts and certainly not appropriate IMHO for a hot rod. I've heard that Testors will only be sold in chain stores and not a local hobby shops. I know that my local hobby shop is having trouble getting product and can't get a straight answer. I'm hoping Hobby Lobby will start carrying Tamiya bottle and spray, but I have no reason to believe that will happen. Just a dream.

Well, after some health issues and two hospital stays, I'm back on this project.
I finally got the interior tub inserted into the body shell...it was a real hassle, I was so frustrated after my previous paint problems - I set this aside for awhile to finish my 29 roadster and Thames Woody. Not sure how the kit designers expected builders to do it, the width of the kit dash board is too darn wide to fit so I had to file the R and L dashboard ends down to ease the fit. I put some stress on the body and broke the interior side walls off numerous times. Opened a crack in a chopped roof pillar but I can deal with that.
So hopefully I can proceed to frame and engine detailing and finish this one.

Glad to hear you're doing better and are back working on this project! Nice work with the body and the engine looks very promising, too. Will be watching for more updates.
