I kind of thought so myself; but some of the ref. pics can be deceiving! Lol! Thanks for clearing that up Bud! Now, there is a panel that goes straight up on the back side of the running board, right? Sort of like an 'L' chanel. Otherwise, you'd see daylight between the running board and the bottom of the body. Ed yes Ed your correct! note how front of rear fender has a slite flair to it as it conects the running board? real obviouse on the green sedan pic that flair continues all the to the body as part of the front of the rear fender like an L shape or S shape depending how you look at it ? you gotta hold your head at a slite angle too see it lmao your doing a great job keep goin on it I know you can do it Bud Ellis kustoms

the bottom of the body does have have a two inch L shape inward towards the frame running with the running boards at the bottom of the rocker! the running boards are flat and tuck just under the body that 1 1/4

That's what I thought.....just needed to confirm that.....thanks! The problem I may encounter is that the gap will disappear when I push the front fenders and body tight to glue them together. Right now they're not touching. I've already sanded about 1/32" off of the bottom of the body; and don't want to take any more 'height' out of it. So, I might have to sand the top of the running boards down a hair........which would be fine if I 'reupholstered' them...<not sure of the correct spelling! LOL! I was thinking of 'covering' the running boards, which, in some cases that I've seen; has hidden that gap at the bottom of the body. I'll figure it out I'm sure......... and if not, I may just live with it if I don't. Ed

Yeah, so do I.....but I don't think anyone will dig the GM blue; because they can't see it in person. I just can't get it to show the true color. Ed

O.k., here's my last attempt to show how the GM blue really looks! Lol! I think the reason it's not showing up in the pics is because it's not polished. Some of the light (color as we see it) is being absorbed by the orange peel, and not refracting back to the eye as it would if it were polished. So, I've found two examples that are VERY close to how this blue looks....Ed Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

The '40 Ford is driving me up a wall! Nothing fit properly before I ever touched it; which is the main problem. In order to make sure the running boards line up with the front fenders and bottom of the body, the front fenders need to mate up to the body properly. Right now, there's a gap between the front fenders and the side of the body; and the body doesn't sit completely down on the front fenders with out a little pressure. I could cut the front fenders off and glue them to the body (like the Revell '40 is molded); but then I'd have a heck of a time primering/painting the firewall, and curvature of the front fenders would make it tough to get paint coverage on the front side of the lower door hinges. I'm also afraid that the running boards won't line up (or now leave a gap) at the front fenders once the body is glued down to the fender unit. Besides the running board fit, I can't work on the hood fit until the front fender deal is taken care of either! It's really tick'n me off right now; and motivation is starting to wane! Lol! I'm not sure if you'll be able to see the differences from side to side or not, but I measured both sides from different points, and it's there. The passenger side is a hair thicker then the driver's side; which is allowing the fender on the driver's side to sit higher on the body. Funny thing is that the arch is the same on both sides......made a template to check that. At first, I thought I could get away with just removing some material from the passenger side to allow the fender to sit higher on that side; but upon doing some quick reference I realized that the triangular shape above the fender is suppose to have a little 's' bend to it (like the driver's side). So, this meant adding a strip of styrene to the driver's side. I'm waiting for the Pro Weld to dry real good before I sand it down and blend it into the arch. Through out all of this it didn't help that the fender unit was warped too! Lol! Maybe now, I'll be able to get the hood to fit properly......which also needs a lot of work. I've already sanded the inside of the hood, and will most likely have to thin down the outside of the hood on one side. All of the body parts are thicker on one side then the other.......even the fender/running board piece! I think when I'm done with this one I'll have to whip out one of those box stock builds I started! LOL! Ed Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

Just think Ed when Its all done youll be happy with it in the end . Like you said in a past post youll have one of the best built AMT 39/40 ford that anybody has ever seen keep that in mind as you push thu the BS its giving you right now. I think every kit gives each of us a hurdle too cross . If they didnt then model car building would be easy and wheres the fun in that? As a person over comes these hurdles they become better builders Or prouder of what they do As a little league football player becomes high school star that turns into a college hall of famer then moves up too the NFL and wins the SUPERBOWL! its all about the journey..... you can do It ED have fun with it the next one will be better learn from the little mistakes and be happy with what you have and most importanatly have fun ! Its just a model hahahahahahahahah

Thanks Bud.......just needed to blow of some steam! LOL! Problem fixed......... It doesn't look perfectly straight or even from the frontal view......that's because the passenger side needs to be pushed up a hair and held when I glue the fenders to the body. But, at least it won't look cock-eyed now! LOL! Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

The running boards arrived today that Russ was kind enough to send me for free.......well, I should say made it to the 'region' today! Lol! I got a notice in the mail from UPS stating that they would not deliver to a P.O. Box. I didn't know that Russ was sending them through UPS; or I would have given him my rural address. Anyway, I come home from the post office (25 miles away), and give UPS a call. They tell me that I have to drive to the depot to pick up this package that I have no idea what it is; or who it's from. I asked them who the shipper is...they tell me they can't disclose that! I ask them the shipper's address.......they won't disclose that! I ask them if they know what's in the box......they won't disclose that! All I got out of them was the approximate weight! Then, the rude lady tells me that I have to show up with my driver's license; and that they close at 7:00. And, I'm told that it will be shipped back if I don't pick it up by the 24th. So, I drive all the way to the depot.....an hour's drive one way.....only to find out that they aren't open until 4.....and, it's now 2:00!!!!! I was pissed! So, I drive home to meet the wife and get a cup of coffe.......then, drive all the way back to the depot to pick up this 'mystery box'! Then, I find out that I spent 4 hours on the road, and logged close to 200 miles on the truck just to pick up these running boards! LOL! The lady I had talked to wasn't there........lucky for her! And, nobody asked me to verify who I was via my driver's license. Man, what a day! So, thanks again for your generosity Russ! Ed
