Stay with the stock looking grille.

UPDATE!A small update, but one none the less. Now that the grill is in primer I wanted to show how I handled the headlights. I end up sanding down where the lenses go a bit and then opened up the reflector areas to take the chrome rings from Revell's 1949 Custom Mercury. This way I can paint the grill and easily have chromed headlight rings without any annoying masking. I also got the "chassis" and inner wheel rings finished in flat black. Everything else is in primer, wet sanded and basically ready for paint but I've yet to make it to the local hobby shop to pick up the main color. I do have the accent color on hand so I'm going to paint those pieces in the meantime.

Cool idea with the headlight rings! I'll have to try and remember that one. Looking forward to seeing this thing in color!

No more progress as I’m going to need to make a hobby shop run for the primer and paint I need. I had also sent the louvered hood off to Ed to be duplicated but after getting it he felt it wasn’t quite good enough to use as a master. Admittedly I didn’t put the usual level of attention into it (especially the underside because it’s gonna be glued shut) because this was supposed to be a quickie project and I didn’t set out making the hood to be a master. It’s on its way back to me and is good enough for what I’m doing here so I should be getting back on this one soon.

That's good to hear. What color do you have planned for it? BTW, I got my '55 finished up. Check it out when you get chance.

Color is going to be Testors one coat Rootbeer metallic with cream accents (grill, bed cover, running boards) and cream/black interior. I actually did paint the grill, boards and bed cover as I have the cream on hand (Tamiya Racing White) but found I was out of clear to finish them. I’ll check out your truck over there, looking forward to it!

OOh, good color combo. I had purchased similar paints ages ago for a '55 chevy truck project that never really took off. Maybe seeing this will get me back in gear, haha.

It's looking nice Dennis! So, that's the One Coat Root Beer? I shy away from that line because the metallic flakes are so out of scale in most of the colors. But, that color looks just right! I may have to get a can of it for a future build. That decal on the bed cover is cooler than penguin shit! When you repaint the running boards, are you going to paint the part that joins the body the color of the body or leave them the cream color?

When you repaint the running boards, are you going to paint the part that joins the body the color of the body or leave them the cream color? Some of the one-coats are too flakey looking but the Rootbeer is one of the better ones. I also like the Icy Blue. Keep in mind this is in terrible light out in my garage at night. It looks way better in person and under sun light. It will also pop way more after I polish it. When I repaint the boards the vertical part that joins up into the bottom of the body is going to be white with the boards as that’s all part of the board in the full scale world. It also occurred to me that I got ahead of myself and didn’t make any mounting for the side exhaust pipes on the underside AND I never took care of the mold seam running the length of the board edge so I will take of all that before repainting. Everything happens for a reason I guess...

I like what I see, I missed this, as I took the summer off from modeling and did not log into the forum. Some great ideas here.I also have one of those interiors for a future build. The root beer is also a color I want to use some time, but will probably shoot scalefinishes through the airbrush.
